Examining the sample to help identify the infectious agent

Some microbiology tests, such as bacterial culture, are used to identify bacteria present in the sample and help investigate the cause of an infection. The type of sample and test depends on the site and type of examination requested. Not all samples are collected or delivered in the same way.

Before collecting the sample

Confirm the name of the test on the prescription with the Parse reception desk, and ask the laboratory about the appropriate container, collection method, and delivery requirements. For a sample collected outside the laboratory, obtain the instructions for that specific sample before collecting it.

Result time

Some culture tests require time for microorganisms to grow. The reception desk will tell you when your test result will be ready; a single timeframe cannot be promised for all cultures.
